Happy Father’s Day to all the men out there. You are being honored today for showing godly love to others and for living out your calling to reflect God’s glory. The following is a prayer that I have adapted from a Mother’s Day prayer that I came across years ago.
Have a great day, guys, and to God be the glory.
God our Father, in your wisdom and love you made all things. Bless those fathers, who have been called and accepted the responsibility of parenting and/or showing fatherly love to others. Bless those who have lost a spouse to death or divorce. Bless those who, through various circumstances, find themselves parenting their children alone. Bless those men who have been called to parent children through adoption or the foster care system. Bless grandfathers who share their wisdom and love with multiple generations. Bless those fathers who have had to bear the grief of mourning the death of a child. We give thanks for uncles and godfathers and neighbors, who share fatherly love with so many children; and for far too often overlooked stepfathers. We give thanks for those who choose to remain without biological children, sharing love with the world in many ways. We pray for those who struggle with infertility, whose desire for a child is met with frustration. We pray for the fathers of children with special needs and chronic illness, who know anxiety and exhaustion better than most. We pray for those who were given abuse and heartbreak by the ones called to love them. We pray for fathers who have made the difficult and loving decision to entrust a child to adoptive parents. Strengthen all these men by your love that they may become the loving, caring persons they are called and meant to be; reflecting Your love and glory. Grant this through Christ Jesus our Lord. Amen.
God is oh so… amazing awesome creative majestic artistic awesome (did I say that already?) Awe-inspiring And a host of other adjectives.
To look at this scene; this artwork, and say this is just a random event is to live a life with blinders on. A sad life, really; going through life in black and white without the wonder and majesty of our Creator God. This is not random but purposefully crafted for our enjoyment but more importantly to the glory of God. People have complimented me on this photo, but really, how I can (or anyone for that matter) take credit for a beautiful photo like this. I mean, this scene was and is there. I just happened to be there to capture it on some digital media. This is God’s masterpiece, painted on His canvas and with His mighty hand.
And this is just the tip of the iceberg. God’s masterpieces are all around you. Stop and smell the roses (or look at the mountains) and give God the glory.
Holy and awesome God, Your mighty hand is powerful and gentle. It can shake and rend the heavens and the earth and it can cradle a new-born life. Your hand can also craft a scene that can take our breath away; drawing our attention to You. Oh God, what can be known about You is indeed evident in creation. May we never be so busy as to miss Your majesty all around. Thank you for taking my breath away with such beauty. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
Oh Lord my God, I called You and You heard me. I pleaded to You and You receive me. I inquired of You and You answered me. For You are my God and I will follow You. You are my King and I will serve You. You are my Father and I will obey You. Send now, oh God, Your Holy Spirit. Guide me Lead me Speak to me May I not turn from Your ways to chase after worthless desires. May I not run after vain pursuits. Show me how I am to serve You that others may see Your glory. For You are an awesome god who is above all other gods, For from You and in You is Life. And so, as I travel this path You laid out for me, May I keep my eyes on You. May I not turn back. May I not second guess you. Oh Lord my God, I am Yours. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. [Psalm 23:1]
Have you ever wanted something so bad that you couldn’t think of anything else? I really want that new phone. I really want that new car. I really want that job promotion. I really want _________. You get the point. Wants are dangerous as they redirect our attention from what we already have. For if you are part of God’s flock through Jesus Christ, then you already have everything you need. And when you see that you have everything you need, then your wants become what God deems that you need in order to glorify him. Your selfish wants won’t do that unless you need those wants to glorify God and God agrees with your wants and thus gives you what you need. If that be the case, then those wants are not selfish but needs that want God more.
[Whew, did you follow all of that?]
Basically, it’s all about God and thus God will ensure you that you have everything you need (Jesus) to want to glorify him.
Oh God, give me what I need to want You more. Amen.
It is indeed right and salutary that we should at all times and in all places give thanks and praise to You, oh God, our Creator and Redeemer. Through Jesus Christ You showed us Your amazing grace and mercy. Through Jesus Christ You revealed Your abundant love. Through Jesus Christ You defeated sin, Satan and the power of death. Through Jesus Christ You revealed Your glory and showed us THE path to You and thus eternal life. May we listen to Jesus and thus proclaim this glory. And so, with the Church on earth and the hosts of heaven, we join in proclaiming this glory and singing Your unending praise…
Holy God, mighty and awesome, You are worthy of all our worship. You are worthy of all our praise. You are worthy of all honor. You are worthy of all glory.
Your voice is powerful; for with Your voice You created. Your voice is mighty; for with Your voice You sustain creation. Your voice is victorious; for with Your voice You subdue Your enemies. You voice is love, for with Your voice You give peace.
May all Your children worship You, in gladness, and joy, and cry with one voice, “GLORY!” You are King. You are Lord. You are sovereign. You reign forever and ever. In Jesus most awesome name I pray, Amen.
