I just want to go on record by saying: I REALLY, REALLY DISLIKE BOX ELDER BUGS (I would use the word "hate", but that is such a strong word…O.K….I HATE BOX ELDER BUGS!)!
Whenever I walk outside I can just hear them: "Look a free taxi ride. Quick…jump on he will never know it". Then I get inside and lo and behold, there they are…flying around in my house or office.
We also have Asian Beatles that attack town when the farmers start harvesting the soy beans in the fall. I had the house and church sprayed, but they are still thick, flying around outside and dive bombing me.
Stupid bugs!
O.K….I am done ranting.
Have a nice day 🙂
-edh-
Yeah, but God made them too.
We have something that gets on everybody’s nerves too. But only every ten or so years: Army worms. They eat every leaf on every tree. There are millions of them. They don’t eat the grass, too bad. Fortunately, the leaves grow back. There are also these big black flies that thrive on the Army worms…and poop on clothes on the line, but, again, only every ten years or so.
is it still dry down there?
Never heard of Box Elder Bugs… we have Japanese Beetles. Are they the same as Asian Beetles? They look like smaller versions of June Bugs. Either way, I hate…. er, strongly dislike them 😉
PS – I just knew someone was going to say that. “Yes”, God did create them for a purpose, but I still don’t like them 🙂
Diane – It’s not too dry down here now. Last night we got a thunderstorm and rain. Something the farmers around here don’t need as they are working on getting the corn out of the fields.
Art – Check out this link about these pests: http://www.ivyhall.district96.k12.il.us/4TH/KKHP/1INSECTS/boxelder.html
As for Asian Beatles; they look like lady bugs. http://www.vanburen-mi.org/Environmental/Asian_Lady_Beatles.html
They were brought to the U.S to eat the aphids that plague soy beans.
I also stronly dislike Box Elder Bugs. We don’t get a lot of the Asian Beetles in Apple Valley but the BE Bugs are getting thicker. I remember growing up and the Box Elder Bugs would cover the side of our garage and the shop. The was would acutally look like it was painted orange, discusting. So I know how you feel. We are now getting a small infestation of Yellow Jackets, which is pretty late to be starting. I can’t wait until the first freeze.
On another note, I keep forgetting to call you. I want to thank you and Connie for the nice Baptism anniversary e-card you sent for Meara. She really enjoyed it. It was nice of you to think of her on this day. She has attended Sunday School twice and loves it so far. She has received a bag from the church with a name tag on it that includes the date of her baptism. We remind her of the day and that you baptised her. You’re the best brother in the world.
Love,
Your sis.
Sorry for the typos. I meant to say that the side of the wall looked like it was painted.
I can also remember you and I finding one of those red/orange patches on the garage and then fire our quirt guns at it; watching the box elder bugs scatter. Pretty cool…then.
And…you are welcome. I am glad Meara enjoyed her card.
O.K…I can’t type either. I mean “squirt guns” not “quirt guns”. I don’t even know what a quirt gun is 🙂
A quirt gun is weapon used by Smurfs to repel giant Smurf eating Box Elder bugs.
In Florida it is love bugs, so named because the males and females “fly united” as it were. They are particularly bothersome in the spring and fall. Over the past few years I have noticed that these amorous insects have found their way to South Carolina.
