The title of this little rambling should say it all. It has been so cotton picken dry these past couple weeks that my lawn is browning up quite nicely. Add a cactus or two and throw in a roadrunner and we got SW Arizona (sense the sarcasm). "Rain, rain, come this way. Please don’t stay away another day". O.K., I know I am whining, but that is another reason I got this blog site; so I can whine when there is no one physically around (I am sure my church secretary is glad I have this outlet). But don’t stop reading, I do have a point.
I just returned to my office after running next door to my house to move my water sprinkler. One would think I could do that with relative ease, but nooooo…not me. I can not move the sprinkler without getting wet. I think I am standing out of the reach of the water, but then the wind comes up and blows the water right at me(For crying out loud, I am wearing nice clothes today). So here I find myself drying off once again today. That’s right, again. This is not the first time today. One would think I would learn.
"And Jesus told them many things in parables, saying: Listen! A sower went out to sow…Other seeds fell on rocky ground, where they did not have much soil, and they sprang up quickly, since they had no depth of soil. But when the sun rose, they were scorched; and since they had no root, they withered away…As for what was sown on rocky ground, this is the one who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; yet such a person has no root, but endures only for a while, and when trouble or persecution arises on account of the word, that person immediately falls away. " (Matthew 13, The Parable of the Sower)
If I don’t take care of my lawn and water it, the sun will scorch the grass and it will indeed whither away. So I water it and care for it. My garden gets the same attention. The heat of the day is powerful. If you do not take care of yourself, you will easily be defeated. Too many people go to worship on Sunday and that is it. It is even worse for those who go to worship once in a while or never go. For them the seed (The Word of God) is sown on rocky soil. The heat of the day and the pressures of life will quickly cause these people whither and fall away. The Word is not sown in the deeps of their being. They do not water it through scripture reading and prayer. You can not go to worship on Sunday and that’s it and expect to be alright. You need the Word of God EVERY SINGLE DAY OF THE WEEK. You need to nurture and care for your self with regular doses of God’s Word. Try it and I guarantee you will see a difference. Your life will "green up" in a hurry. And like a nice looking green lawn, people WILL start asking you, "what is your secret?" At that you have an amazing opening to share with them the glorys of God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So go out there and get wet. You will be better for it. Amen.
